The Rocky Shore at Fisherman's Camp - Ollie Maguire

There were thousands of barnacles all over the rocks, goose neck barnacles and many other sorts. Barnacles can never move from the rock they are stuck to. When barnacle larvae are hatched, they float around in the sea until they find a rock to stick to and then they stay there. Now I know barnacles can't move.

Now I know what a chiton look like. Chiton have we bumps all over them and there are different sorts of chiton.
I was amazed at how close the black foot paua were to the shore.
I have learned that sea tulips are filter feeders and starfish stick out their stomach to eat.

Our Rocky Shore Field Trip - Lachie Shanks

Our Field trip to Fisherman's camp at Nugget Point was an interesting experience. We all learned about the different species that live in a rocky shore environment.
One creature I found difficult to spot was a hermit crab. A hermit crab is a scavenger. They are a live vacuum and eat all the dead plants and animals that fall to the bottom. The hermit crab has a hard wee shell and are quite common in all the rock pools.
Another common creature I saw in the calm water was a paua sucking onto a smooth rock. A paua is a grazer. Grazers are the vegetarians, so they eat sea weed. Spiny starfish and other large starfish are paua's predators. Another predator is us, the people.
Exploring the rocky shore was an amazing experience.
